NSFAS 2024 Application Dates – Fresh Update

There is good news for prospective students who wish to study in 2024 but are struggling financially and are patiently waiting for the 2024 NSFAS applications to open to submit the bursary applications. The NSFAS has formally announced the application dates for 2024. The day the 2024 application season will open has finally been announced by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).

NSFAS covers costs such as tuition and registration fees. All approved NSFAS students will receive monthly allowances for meals, accommodation, transportation, textbooks, and living expenses.

NSFAS Application Requirements For 2024

To qualify for NSFAS funding, you need to meet the requirements below

South African citizenship or permanent residency.
Enrollment or acceptance at a public South African university or TVET college.
Combined annual household income of R350,000 threshold.
Satisfactory academic progress.
Possession of email address and a cell phone number
Not exceeding the maximum age requirement.
Not currently in possession of another financial assistance award for the same qualification.

The announcement states that applications will be accepted from Tuesday, November 21, 2023, to Wednesday, January 31, 2024, from all South African students enrolled or intending to enrol in a public university or TVET college who have an email address and a phone number. This indicates that the NSFAS application window and season will open and begin on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, and close at 11:59:59 PM on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

Closing Date

The closing date for submitting NSFAS applications for the 2024–2025 academic year is Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at 11:59 PM. It is recommended that you apply as soon as the portal opens. Early applications have a higher chance of being approved quickly, so you can be sure you’ll get your money in time for classes to start.

Prepare these documents before the opening date for the 2024 academic year

Smart card (Front and back page)
Proof of income (where applicable)
Disability Annexure A form (Disability student)
Copy of student ID / Birth certificate
Copy of parent/s or guardian/ spouse ID
An applicant who is recognized as a vulnerable child by the Department of Social Development must provide a completed Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker
