What you will need to start a new application at the University of Pretoria

To start a new application at the University of Pretoria (UP) for the 2025-2026 academic year, the following requirements must be met:

Make sure you have all of your supporting documentation ready.
Your local police station must certify these documents.
The Certification must be no more than 60 days old at the time of application.
Use a browser that is compatible with all of your applications and inquiries.
Check that your ID card is a government-issued identification card.
Fill out all of the fields marked with a red *.
Your academic credentials must be a scanned copy of the original issued by your previous institute.
Indicate on the University of Pretoria application form if you require campus housing.
Examine the entry requirements for your preferred course.

The online application for the 2025 January intake at the University of Pretoria will be open from April 1, 2024, to June 30, 2024. Remember that closing dates vary by course, so check the full list of UP courses and their respective closing dates or deadlines for the 2025 intake.

University of Pretoria Application Fee Requirements

There is an application fee for applying to the University of Pretoria, and if you do not pay it, your application will be rejected.

Every applicant for the University of Pretoria Admission must pay an R300 non-refundable application fee. The University of Pretoria will only accept and process your application if all required documents, including proof of payment of the application fee for 2025-2026, are received within the application deadlines.

Prospective students must submit the following documents when applying to the University of Pretoria. These are the documents needed to apply online to the University of Pretoria. Your application form is invalid without these documents, and it may be rejected for 2025 January intake admissions.

Before applying to the University of Pretoria, you should download the prospectus and read about the entry and minimum requirements of the course you want to study in 2025 at the University of Pretoria. You may select up to two study options as first and second choices on the application form. During the online application process, you will be able to select the course code from a drop box.

How to Start a New Application at the University of Pretoria for 2025-2026

To start a new application at the University of Pretoria, you must follow the steps below for 2025-2026:

Go to www.upnet.up.ac.za/psc/upapply.
Choose “Start New Application” from the drop-down menu.
On the privacy notice pop-up, click OK.
Fill in the blanks with your information (Personal information)
Check that the characters in the security code field are entered correctly.
Go to the Go tab.
A disclaimer appears; carefully read it before proceeding (Do not discard this page)
Fill in your information in the provided dropbox.
Select the OK button.
On the next page, confirm your application and click continue to proceed.
An ID and a temporary Password will be emailed to you. During the application process, a working email address is required.
Start your application with this ID number and password by clicking on the link in your email.
If you want, you can create your password.
To proceed, click the “save and next” button.
The application summary page is now editable. This is the application’s starting point.
Start and edit your online application
Upload the necessary documents in the proper format.
Pay your non-refundable application fee into the university’s official account.
If you believe you are finished, click the submit button.

Please Note:

Once your online application has been processed, you will receive a student number(EMPLID).
Receiving a student number (EMPLID) does NOT imply that you have been accepted by the University of Pretoria yet. Admission is a separate process that your application undergoes after being evaluated by the relevant faculty.

When you start using the Online Application you will be requested to indicate the “Career” for which you are applying.
- If you have never studied before or have not obtained any degree yet (new first-year students), please select an Undergraduate career.
- If you have already obtained one or more degree/s, please select a Postgraduate career.

How to Upload the University of Pretoria Outstanding documents

To upload all supporting and required documents, go through the steps below:

Click on the Load/ View Document to submit your first document
Click on the UPLOAD DOCUMENT button
Select your saved scanned Matric document (document must be saved as .tiff, pdf, .jpg or .gif) from your device
Click on the SAVE and then the CLOSE button
Click on the CLOSE button again
Click on the CLOSE button again
Select the COMPLETE UPLOAD button to finalize your online application process
