University of KwaZulu Natal (Ukzn) Online Application 2025/2026

The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) will be accepting applications for the 2025 academic cycle from April 1, 2024, to September 30, 2024. This applies to all programs offered by the university.

It is important to note that UKZN will not accept late applications, so be sure to submit your application well before the deadline. You can apply online through the UKZN application portal or the Central Applications Office (CAO) website.

UKZN Application Deadlines for 2025-2026 Academic Year (January 2025 Entry)

Here are the application deadlines for the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) for Semester 1 entry in January 2025:

Application opening date for all programmes: April 1, 2024
Application closing date for Medicine (MBChB): June 30, 2024
Application closing date for all other programmes: September 30, 2024

Applying Directly to UKZN for 2025

UKZN is inviting applications for 2025! This applies to returning undergrads, students taking a gap year, local postgrads, and international applicants (both undergrad and postgrad). You can apply directly to UKZN following these steps.

Visit the UKZN website: Navigate to www.ukzn.ac.za.
Find the application portal: Locate the “Apply to UKZN 2025 intake” section or tab.
Review application instructions: Carefully read the provided instructions before proceeding.
Complete the online application form: Fill out the form with accurate and required details.
Submit your application: Once completed, submit your application electronically for review.
Pay the application fee: Proceed to affect the application payment and upload the receipt before the closing date

How to Apply to UKZN through the CAO Application Form For 2025

For the 2025/2026 academic year, South African students applying to UKZN for the first time as undergraduates must submit their applications through the Central Application Office (CAO) platform. To apply via CAO, follow the steps below

Visit the official website @ cao.ac.za and select “Apply.”
After reading the details, press “Continue with Application.“
Enter your ID number and click on ‘Submit’
Click ‘Continue with Application‘ at the bottom of the page after you have scrolled there.
Start by entering ALL of the required information.
After you have completed all the required fields, click “Next.” “Continue with Online Application” should be clicked.
You’ll see your CAO number, password, and EasyPay number in a pop-up window. Read the guidelines.
“Continue with Online Application” should be clicked.
After carefully reading the instructions and submitting ALL necessary information, click “Next.”
Click “Next” after filling out the “Next of Kin” information.
Once the school’s name is displayed in a box, you must enter the years that you first enrolled there and when you graduated from it before clicking “Search.”
Choose “Next.”
NOW THAT YOUR APPLICATION HAS BEEN SENT, CLICK THE BUTTON WHEN “Process My Application” IS VISIBLE.
When your submission is successful, a notification will appear on your screen.
Now that you can pay online and upload your supporting documentation.

Required Documents for UKZN Application (2025)

Please ensure you upload the following documents (where applicable):

Identification: Certified copy of your ID/passport.
Academic Qualifications:
- School Leavers: Certified copy of your National Senior/Matric Certificate, O/A Levels, or relevant school leaving qualification/certificate.
- Transfer Applicants: Certified copies of your degree certificate(s), academic record, and certificate of conduct.
International Applicants:
- Proof of Qualification: Proof from Universities South Africa (USAF) that you qualify for admission to degree studies in South Africa.
- English Proficiency: Proof of English proficiency if your country is not English-speaking.
- Foreign Qualifications: South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) evaluations if your previous qualifications were obtained outside South Africa.
- Study Visa: Valid study visa to study in South Africa.
Master’s/PhD Applicants: Research proposal or proposed title of your dissertation/thesis.

Note: USAF/SAQA documents are mandatory for uploading and completing your application.

Application fee payment instructions

Please ensure to use the reference APPN (followed by your student number) when making the application fee payments.
Please allow the system 24 hrs to 48 hrs to clear your payment.

International Applicants

On the UKZN Application for Admission to Undergraduate Study (International) form, applicants must apply directly to UKZN for full-time undergraduate studies.
UKZN charges a non-refundable application fee. On submission of their application, applicants must include proof of payment as well as all documentation asked.
Applicants must make every effort to guarantee that their application and payment arrive before the deadline.

For the 2025 academic year, to be admitted to the University of KwaZulu-Natal, UKZN, you must satisfy the following minimum requirements:

Degree Programmes: National Senior Certificate (NSC-Deg) or a Senior Certificate with endorsement.
Diploma programmes: National Senior Certificate for Diploma Studies (NSC-Dip) or Senior Certificate.
