We are glad to announce that the NSFAS Application Student Portal for the 2026 application season is now officially open to the public. This portal is intended to collect information from students requesting financial aid to complete their postsecondary studies. If you cannot afford an undergraduate degree, apply online through the NSFAS student portal.

NSFAS Application Date For 2026

The NSFAS Application Student Portal is now open for 2026. This portal will be active from September 1 to November 21, 2025, to accept and process new applications from students at various universities and TVET colleges seeking funding. Visit the student application portal if you meet all the eligibility criteria to complete the application and submit all supporting documents before the deadline.

What prerequisites must one meet to apply for NSFAS 2026?

Before you apply, ensure you satisfy the criteria below:

  • Must be a citizen or lawful permanent resident of South Africa
  • The annual gross household income should not be more than R350,000.
  • The annual gross household income of individuals with impairments should not surpass R600,000.
  • SASSA beneficiaries are immediately eligible financially.
  • Email and cell phone numbers are essential.

Document Required

You are required to upload a copy of each of the following documents during the online application process. If any document is not ready yet, you can still submit it later as long as the portal is still active

  • Certified copy of ID (Identity card or Passport)
  • Certified copy of academic results
  • Proof of residence
  • Certified copy of Next-of-Kin ID
  • Guardian’s ID
  • A valid Email Address
  • A valid cell phone number
  • Guardian/Parents full name and Surname
  • Guardian’s cell phone number, email address, and home address
  • Postal code and city of the applicant and parents/Guardian.
  • A smart card with both sides is required.
  • Proof of income (where applicable).
  • Persons living with disability (Disability Annexure A form).
  • Vulnerable Child Declaration form by a social worker.
  • Non-SASSA Declaration for applicants with no family details or abridged birth certificate.

Just complete these steps to apply:

  • Open your computer’s or smartphone’s browser.
  • Type www.nsfas.org.za into the search box to access the NSFAS website.
  • Select the “myNSFAS” link located in the upper right menu of the NSFAS homepage.
  • Create a myNSFAS account. If you have one, log in to myNSFAS portal
  • After that, Click on the ‘APPLY’ page to begin the application process
  • Provide the needed information on the online application form.
  • When relevant, upload all necessary supporting documentation.
  • Fill out the online forms and send in your application to be reviewed.
