NSFAS 2025 Online Applications Are Still Open!

NSFAS Application Student Portal Open For 2025-2026

Good News for all those who have not yet applied for NSFAS 2025! The deadline for applying to receive NSFAS funding for the academic year 2025 has been moved up to Thursday, February 15, 2025. As a result, individuals who were unable to submit their applications now have another opportunity. Go quickly to www.nsfs.org.za to submit a funding application.

NSFAS 2025 Application Period Now Extended!

The NSFAS management has announced that the application window for the 2025–2026 academic year will remain open until February 15, 2025. Students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, if they haven’t already, for NSFAS 2024 funding as the deadline will not be extended after it ends on February 15, 2025.

NSFAS 2025 Application Dates

The following dates apply to all prospective and current NSFAS students:

Opening Date: 20th September 2024 @ 16:00 pm
Closing date: 15th February 2025 @ 12 midnight

Who Can Apply for the 2025 NSFAS Bursary?

You can apply for an NSFAS bursary if you are a citizen of South Africa, plan to attend school in 2025, or if you are a current student at a public university or TVET college and meet the requirements below.

South African citizens or permanent residents
SASSA grant recipients
Applicants whose combined gross household income is not more than R350 000 per year
Persons with disabilities whose combined gross household income is not more than R600 000 per year.
Must have an email account and cell phone number.

Who should not submit an NSFAS application?

Students who are not yet finished with their current degree, have applied for and been granted funding in the past, and do not intend to change careers from TVET College to University or the other way around.

For the duration of their studies, they will automatically be funded as long as they pass their modules and meet the academic requirements.

What does the NSFAS bursary cover?

General: If your funding application receives approval, NSFAS will pay your expenses for:

Accommodation/Rent
Living Allowance
Learning material allowance
Personal care allowance

University of South Africa: If you are studying at the University of South Africa (UNISA) you will receive funding for:

Tuition
Books (subject to the number of modules registered)
Personal care allowance

Disability Student: If you are an eligible student with a disability, you will receive funding for:

Assistive Devices
Meals
Tuition
Transport
Tuition
Human Support
Accommodation

Allowances, excluding human support, for students living with disabilities attending TVET Colleges will as of 2023 be supported directly by the NSFAS.

NSFAS Application Requirements For 2025

The 2025 application process requires the following supporting documents:

Students with disabilities must provide a completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form
An applicant who is recognized as a vulnerable child by the Department of Social Development must provide completed and Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker
Retrenchment letter
Proof of citizenship
Death certificate/s
Divorce Decree
Proof of legal guardianship
Marriage certificate
