Attention prospective UP students! Applying to the University of Pretoria (UP) for undergraduate programs typically starts in April of the year before your desired study period. So, if you want to start in 2025, applications are likely to open in April 2024. But don’t procrastinate! Each program has its application deadline, so be sure to check the official UP website (https://www.up.ac.za/online-application) as soon as applications open for the latest details and deadlines.

Key Deadlines for University of Pretoria Undergraduate Admissions
Applications for most undergraduate programs at the University of Pretoria are due June 30, 2024. But future veterinarians take note: the Faculty of Veterinary Science has an earlier deadline of May 31, 2024. Be sure to submit your application materials well in advance to avoid missing out on your dream program.
Ensure strict adherence to the following:
- Internet access connectivity
- An email address you regularly check since you will get a confirmation email with your student number (EMPLID) as soon as your online application is submitted.
- All the required documents must be in PDF formats (Scanned)
- Documents are labeled correctly
- There is no encryption or passwords on the file

How to Apply: Online Application Process/Procedure for the University of Pretoria in 2025-2026
The Online Application System is designed for new prospective students who are making their first application to UP. It is not for students currently enrolled at the University of Pretoria. Follow the steps below to apply:
- Get access to the internet (Do not use a mobile Phone)
- Enter www.//upnet.up.ac.za/psc/upapply/
- from the drop box, choose ” Start New Application“
- Click ok on the privacy notice pop-up
- Fill in the Blanks with your details (Personal information)
- Ensure the characters are entered into the security code field correctly
- Click on the Go tab
- A disclaimer opens up, read it carefully and continue (Do not discard this page)
- Enter Your details by using the provided Dropbox
- Click on the OK button
- Confirm your application on the next page and click continue to proceed
- An ID and a temporary Password will be sent to your email. A working email is required during the application
- Use this ID number and password to start your application by clicking on the link in your email
- Create your password if you so wish
- Click on the “save and next” button to continue
- The application summary page is open for edit. this is the starting point for the application
- Edit and start your online application
- Upload the required documents in their right format
- Pay your Application Fee that is non-refundable into the university’s official account details
- Click on the submit button if you think you’re done
Please take note: Receiving a student number (EMPLID) does NOT imply that you have been accepted by the University of Pretoria yet. Admission is a separate process that your application undergoes after being evaluated by the relevant faculty
What is EMPLID: It is simply a unique number that identifies each student in the Student Information System (SIS)
University of Pretoria Admissions requirements
- National Senior Certificate (NSC)
- Mathematics: 5 (C Symbol: 60%-69%) (Note that Mathematical Literacy will not be accepted)
- Physical Science: 5 (C Symbol: 60%-69%)
- English or Afrikaans: 4 (D Symbol: 50%-59%)
- Life Orientation: 4 (D Symbol: 50%-59%) (Excluded when calculating the APS)
- Two other subjects: 4 (D Symbol: 50%-59%)
- An Admission Points Score (APS) of 32
- Admission test
