Nearly all 26 public universities in South Africa are currently open, accepting applications for the 2025–2026 academic year. Application documents must be submitted to any of the universities by the closing date to be considered for early bird admissions in 2025.

Are you still thinking about where to study in January 2025? Apply to any South African university between Friday, March 1, 2024, and Friday, March 14, 2025, for the January 2025 intake. Although the universities will accept applications all year long, we suggest submitting your application by the end of October for the January 2025 intake, or by the end of June 2024 for the July intake.

For most undergraduate and postgraduate programs, you should apply directly to the university using the online application form. Universities such as MUT, DUT, UKZN, and UniZulu accept undergraduate applications through the Central Application Office website (CAO)

While some universities close as early as 31 August 2024, some close as late as 15 March 2025. This is a list of universities that are still accepting applications for 2025–2026 and are still open. We strongly advise you to submit your application as soon as possible for 2025.

Find out if there is an application fee by visiting the university’s official website. A university in South Africa may currently impose an application fee of around R100. The maximum application fee for a South African university is R575.

You must attach the application fee payment receipt to your application form before submitting it after making the offline payment. Applications for 2025-2026 will be deemed incomplete and invalid if they are submitted without a receipt or draft for the application fee.
