What Does The Nsfas Funding Covers For 2024-2025

The online application for the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) 2026 is now open. Students seeking funding are hereby encouraged to apply via www.nsfas.ac.za. Students who are approved will greatly benefit from financial support to aid their studies at higher education institutions.

Dates for NSFAS Admissions: You can submit an NSFAS financing application beginning September 28th, 2025. Applications for 2025 are due by January 31, 2026. Late submissions will not be considered after the deadline, so send them as soon as possible.

How Many Tertiary Institutions are funded by Nsfas

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) provides financial assistance to students at South Africa’s 26 public universities and 50 technical colleges. If you are already enrolled in a private university or college, you are not eligible for funding.

What are the benefits of Nsfas when you are a member?

Applicants who are approved for NSFAS funding are covered for:

University Applicants

Accommodation-As per the actual costs charged by the university (costs for private accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence)
Transport (up to 40 km from the institution)-R7 500 per annum
Living allowance-R15, 000 per annum
Book allowances-R5200 per annum
Incidental/personal care allowance-R2900 per annum for students in catered residences

Tvet Colleges

Accommodation in an urban area-R24,000 per annum
Accommodation in a peri-urban area-R18,900 per annum
Accommodation in a rural area-R15,750 per annum
Transport (up to 40 km from the institution)-R7,350 per annum OR Transport-R7000 per annum
Incidental/personal care allowance-R2900 per annum
