How to Upload Documents at Unisa for 2026

This guide explains how to properly upload outstanding documents for your University of South Africa (UNISA) 2026 application. Whether you are applying for the first time or reapplying as a returning student, it provides instructions on which documents to upload. In many cases, certain documents may not be visible on the application page, but they are still required and must be uploaded.

Unisa requires that all documents be uploaded through the system throughout the application period.

When to Upload UNISA Application Documents

Everyone applying for a new qualification, including first-time applicants and UNISA students starting a new qualification, must submit the relevant documents. The deadline for uploading these documents is the same as the application deadline: October 11 for undergraduate qualifications and November 10 for postgraduate qualifications. No documents will be accepted after the application deadline.

Unisa Application Supporting Documents For 2026

All applicants seeking a new qualification must upload all necessary documents, which often include the following:

  • Copy of your school qualifications (eg Senior Certificate, National Senior Certificate)
  • Copy of your official tertiary academic record(s) (if applicable) (internet copies will not be accepted)
  • Copy of your ID document (RSA students) or ID/passport (international students)
  • Copy of your marriage certificate (if applicable) or divorce decree (if applicable)
  • Sworn translations of documents if they are not in English or Afrikaans
  • Some qualifications may require additional documents.

Supporting Documents’ File Format

Upload only the necessary documents as individual files, not the entire set of documents as a single file. Please be certain that the documents and photographs you upload are viewable.

  • Each file cannot be greater than 2MB (2048KB).
  • Only documents in black and white may be submitted.
  • The following file types are  permitted: TIF (image file), PDF (Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format file), or DOC (Word document file)

Please Note:

  • Unisa maintains the right to seek original papers and/or verify the accuracy of documents presented at any time. Submitting false documents is a violation of the Student Disciplinary Code.
  • Do not use your phone scanner to scan the documents. To obtain the exact file size of the document (2MB), you must use a decent scanner.

How to Upload Required Application Documents at Unisa Online

To upload documents, you must first complete the application process and be granted a student number. If this is your first time applying to UNISA, you will see the letter “N” in red on the applicant’s dashboard, indicating the necessary documents.

To upload your documents:

  • Click “Choose files.”
  • Access the folder containing your documents.
  • Locate and double-click the specific document you wish to upload.
  • It will appear as a preview; click “Upload.”

Note that once a file is uploaded, you cannot delete it. If you upload the wrong document by mistake, do not leave the section—simply upload the correct file by repeating the same steps. Continue this process for all required documents.
