NMU 2026 Application: Key Dates, Requirements, and How to Apply

The 2026 application period for undergraduate and graduate programs at Nelson Mandela University (NMU) is now open. Prospective students can apply online or through a manual process.

Please read this page for information on the dates, documents, fees, and steps involved in applying to this top technological university.

NMU 2026 Application Date Breakdown

Be sure to submit your application according to the dates below to be considered for the 2026 intake

  • General Application: April 1 – September 30, 2025 (Undergraduate & Postgraduate)
  • Early Applications: August 2nd, 2025 (excluding MBChB & BRad)
  • Late Applications: September 30th, 2025 (excluding MBChB & BRad)
  • International Applications: September 30th, 2025 (excluding MBChB)
  • MBChB Applications: May 31st, 2025 (with NBT on July 31st, 2025)

Document Requirements for NMU 2026 Applications

You will require the documents listed below based on your citizenship.

  • A verified copy of your Grade 11 final test results or
  • A certified copy of your most recent Grade 12 exam results (June/September) (no March results), or
  • A certified copy of your matriculation certificate/statement of results if you have already passed Grade 12/completed schooling,
  • certified copies of your diploma/degree certificates plus academic record(s) and certificate(s) of conduct if you have studied elsewhere,
  • A certified copy of your ID (birth certificate if still waiting for ID),
  • A certified copy of the identity document of your parent/legal guardian/surety,
  • If you are a dependent, if you are presently in school, or studying at a tertiary institution, or if you have recently left school and do/will not have permanent work when applying or studying at the university, you must provide a declaration by your parent / legal guardian/surety.

N.B.: Ensure all the documents above are certified and scanned before you submit them.

Nelson Mandela University Application Fee

South African citizens are not required to pay an application fee, while international students must pay an R500 fee. Students with permanent residency or a valid South African identity number are exempt from the application fee.

The non-refundable application fee of R500 must be deposited into the Standard Bank account: 080263011. Use your student number (provided after applying) as the reference. Failure to provide proof of payment will result in the rejection of applications.

How to Apply Online for NMU 2026

To apply online to Nelson Mandela University:

  • Go to Nelson Mandela University’s application page.
  • Choose Your Application Type
  • Click on the “Apply Online” tab to begin your application.
  • Carefully go through the instructions to make sure you meet all the requirements.
  • Click “APPLY ONLINE NOW.
  • Choose your citizenship before moving to the next step.
  • After confirming you meet the requirements, select the course you’re applying for.
  • Enter Your ID/Passport Number.
  • Complete all required fields
  • Submit the required documents as part of your application.
  • Once you’ve filled in all the necessary details, submit your completed application form for review.
  • Check your portal for your current admission status

How to Check Your NMU Application Status

To track the status of your application:

  • Go to the official NMU website.
  • Enter your student ID and PIN after selecting Admission Status on the left side of the page.
  • Select “Login.”

Registration for 2026 at Nelson Mandela University

Online registration for the 2026 academic year will open to all new students accepted for the intake. The registration period typically runs from January to February of the year of study. When you receive an offer to study at NMU, make sure you have your registration fee and supporting documentation ready.
