Why NSFAS?

NSFAS is a government-funded initiative that empowers financially disadvantaged South Africans to pursue tertiary education. It provides significant financial aid, covering tuition fees, living expenses, textbooks, and even personal allowances. This vital support removes financial barriers and opens doors to countless educational opportunities. NSFAS does not fund foreigners or second-degree qualifications under any circumstances.

NSFAS is an organization that provides funds for South Africans whose family income does not exceed R350,000 per year to pursue higher education at a university or a technical college. Anyone who has completed Grade 12 in South Africa and has an email address and phone number can apply for NSFAS online. To put it another way, NSFAS is only available to South African citizens who are financially handicapped.

Nsfas online application opening date 2024/2025

The NSFAS bursary 2024–2025 will accept online applications from Tuesday, November 21, 2023, through Wednesday, January 31, 2024. Applications must be submitted online. All citizens of South Africa who are accepted into universities or TVET colleges that offer programs that have been approved by the NSFAS will be eligible for financial aid. On November 21, 2023, you can start applying for NSFAS financial aid for the 2024–2025 academic year. Applications for NSFAS Bursaries for South African students will be available starting from November 21, 2023. Applications for NSFAS funding will not be accepted before that date.

NSFAS Online Application Closing Date For 2024-2025

The online application for NSFAS financial assistance is closing on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, so you need to act fast if you want to apply. There are only three months left to submit all necessary documents to NSFAS for academic activity 2024–2025 approval and verification. You should finish the application (application documents required) before submitting it to be considered for funding. NSFAS will not accept late applications after Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

Nsfas Application Documents Required For 2024-2025

One thing you should know is that if you forget to send in or upload the necessary supporting documents, your funding application will not be able to move on to the next level of approval. Please make sure you fill out every section of the application form and attach all supporting documents in the appropriate format if you want your application to be processed. To ensure that your application is processed by NSFAS management, you must provide your identification number on each page of all of the supporting documents. Without an ID number, NSFAS won’t be able to process your online application.

Your certified copies of all of your documents cannot be more than three months old. The South African Police Service or the South African Post Office can certify your documents. All NSFAS application documentation must be certified by these organizations.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR NSFAS BURSARY?

Who is eligible?

To be eligible for NSFAS, you must be:

A South African citizen
Intending to study at a public university or TVET college in 2024
From a household with a combined annual income below R350,000
Meeting the academic requirements set by your chosen institution
An applicant with any type of impairment with a combined household income is less than R600,000 per year is also eligible to apply for NSFAS 2024.
A Student who started studying before 2018 and whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum.

Who Does Not Qualify to Apply for Nsfas 2024-2025?

We advise you to look for alternative funding if you are one of the following students applying for the NSFAS Bursary for 2024, as your application will be rejected. To be eligible for funding, you must first meet the requirements. The following students are not qualified to submit funding applications.

Students that have completed a previous qualification.
Students with a combined household income of more than R350 000 per annum.
Students who have already applied, qualified, and received funding. They are automatically funded for the duration of their studies provided they pass their modules and meet the academic requirements.
Foreign students (any student who is not a South African citizen

Applying NSFAS 2024-2025 at www.nsfas.org.za without a mobile phone

Applicants seeking NSFAS funding for 2024 who do not have a personal cell phone should obtain one immediately or use the cell phone of a close friend or relative. Please keep in mind that you cannot apply for Nsfas funding without having a mobile phone. To register an NSFAS account, you will also need a cell phone number and an email address. Smart devices with internet access are used to apply for Nsfas online at www.nsfas.org.za. If you don’t have access to a smart device, simply go to your nearest National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) or Thusong Centre and ask for assistance.

If you are a student at one of South Africa’s 50 registered and approved Tvet Colleges, or if you plan to apply or enrol, NSFAS bursaries are available. To access your MyNSFAS account, go to https://my.nsfas.org.za/Application/selfservice.jsp.
From the drop-down menu, choose Track Funding Progress.
Examine the status tabs of the application.
By choosing the Submit Appeal tab, you can submit an appeal if your application has been denied.
Once you’ve arrived at the Application Appeal page, you can find out why your application was rejected.
Explain in writing why you are appealing the outcome of your application.
No more than 1000 words should be used in your motivational speech (words including spaces).
Upload certified supporting documents to support your argument. A maximum of five documents are allowed per individual.
By selecting Submit, you can submit your appeal.
You will be able to follow the development of your appeal via your MyNSFAS account.
