NSFAS aims to transform the program into an efficient and effective provider of financial aid to students from low-income and working-class families in a way that is sustainable and advances South Africa’s national and human resource development goals in order to support access to and success in higher and further education and training.

Below are the key duties discharged by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS)

The Scheme exists to:

  •  Support access to, and success in, higher education and training for students from poor and working-class families who would otherwise not be able to afford the cost of studying at a TVET college or university.
  • Provides bursaries to qualifying students at TVET colleges and public universities.
