When to register online at Stellenbosch University
Online registration for the 2024–2025 academic year at Stellenbosch University is available from January 15–February 23, 2024. The breakdown of the 2024 academic registration timelines can be found below.
- 15 January 2024: Start of online registration for senior undergraduate (excluding transfer students) and postgraduate students
- 25 January 2024: Start of online registration for newcomer first-year students
- 29 January – 1 February 2024: On-campus assisted registration for senior students (including transfer students) on Stellenbosch Campus, as per the registration schedule below
- 5 – 6 February 2024: On-campus assisted registration of newcomer first-years (excluding transfer students) on Stellenbosch Campus, as per the registration schedule below
- 6 – 8 February 2024: On-campus extended assisted registration for senior students (including transfer students) on Stellenbosch Campus, as per the registration schedule below
- 8 February 2024: Conclusion of registration for all students (excluding M and D students)
- 9 February 2024: Module amendments for the faculties of Arts and Social Sciences, Economic and Management Sciences and Engineering
- 12 February 2024: Start of academic year
- 23 February 2024: Final day for late registration of undergraduate and postgraduate students (excluding M and D students)
- The University cannot guarantee a position for students who do not register on time.
How is the registration done:
The following registration options are available to students for the 2023 academic year:
- Online Registration/Self-registration
- E-mail registration
- Campus registration
Self-Registration: The university encourages newly accepted students to apply online via their registration portal. with the help of a smart device, you can easily achieve this. However, some programmes require online applications and others do not. Click here to see the applicable programmes.
Those who cannot apply using the registration portal
The following students will not have access to self-registration:
- Students who have one or more proof of admissibility documents outstanding
- Students whose readmission to the University is not in order.
- Students whose student account with the University is in arrears (debtors).
- Students who have been accepted by the University for postgraduate programmes and are registering for that programme for the first time in 2023 (postgraduate newcomers).
- Students who register for special programmes or as a special student or transferred to another programme.
- Students who have a final result at the end of the year other than “pass year” on the academic record.
Required Documents For Registration
Students registering on the Stellenbosch University via assisted registration must report with the following original documents at registration in your faculty’s allotted registration timeslot:
- National Senior Certificate.
- School-leaving certificate/s and certificate of university exemption issued by the SA Matriculation Board.
- An original academic transcript/record and certificate of good conduct issued by the university concerned.
International Students
If you are not a South African citizen, you must submit additional supporting documents electronically to intpreregistration@sun.ac.za (include your student number on each document) to obtain pre-registration clearance as follows:
- Certified copy of your valid passport
- Certified copy of your valid study visa or proof of Permanent Residence in South Africa;
- Proof of South African medical aid (for study visa-holders);
- Proof of payment (scholarships/bursaries must be authorized by SU International’s financial administrators)
How to do SELF REGISTRATION online
Step 1: Self-registration can be done from any computer with access to the internet via my.sun.ac.za.
Step 2: Select e-registration and enter your username and your password
Step 3: Proceed to step 4 after paying your Registration fee for 2022. Remember that the first payment, as well as outstanding fees from 2022, must be paid at least 5 workdays before registration.
Step 4: Accept the rules of the university/faculties
Step 5: Need to change the qualification you have been admitted to? Continue
Step 6: Students should preferably obtain academic advice before registration
Step 7: If you have answered yes to all previous questions, you may proceed to register for your qualification and modules
Step 8: It is your responsibility to make sure that your registration details are correct. Print proof of registration after you complete the registration process to check the details.
Step 9: Change Modules after Registration
- Do you need to change/correct your registration details
- Change your Qualification if ANY
Step 11: Your application is now complete. You are now a student at Stellenbosch University. Proceed to download the official proof of registration from the system.
E-mail registration: This option is only applicable to those without access to self-registration or who are unable to self-register.
Campus registration: This option is only applicable to those without access to self-registration or who could not complete their registration via the e-mail registration option.
