UKZN Application 2026 Opening & Closing Dates
Since the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) has formally opened its 2026 application season to the public, all prospective students are encouraged to register and submit their applications through the portal. In this post, we will be informing you of the portal’s opening and closing dates.
What You Need to Have to Apply
To be considered for the UKZN 2026 academic intake, you must turn in the following documents and information by the deadline:
- Academic Results and Certificates:
- A scanned copy of a valid ID or passport.
- Working Email Address.
- Phone number
When Do UKZN Applications Open for 2026?
The application cycle for the 2026 academic intake will begin on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, for both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Prospective students should apply before September 30, 2025. But wait, there are courses with earlier closing dates, so you need to be cautious.
Application Fees at UKZN
A non-refundable application fee of R210 applies for South African students. For late applications, the fee increases to R420. Kindly visit the official website to learn how to effect payment and upload receipts. You need to pay the fee by the close of the application deadline.

How to Apply to UKZN: Step-by-Step Guide
You need to apply as early as possible to secure your course because the university can only accommodate a limited number of students:
For South African Undergraduate Students:
- Apply via the Central Application Office (CAO)
- Get the CAO brochure and read the requirements.
- Choose up to three programs.
- Follow the CAO on-screen to complete the form
- You will sent an email with your CAO number
- Pay the application fee online or via EasyPay
- Upload required documents:
- Certified copy of ID or passport
- National Senior Certificate (NSC) or equivalent
- Proof of payment
- Any other program-specific documents
For International, Transfer, and Postgraduate Students:
You must apply directly to the university and upload the required documents if you are a postgraduate, transfer, or international student.
International students
- Proof from Universities South Africa (USAF) confirming eligibility for degree studies
- South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) evaluation for foreign qualifications
- Valid study visa for South Africa
Transfer students
- Official academic transcripts from your previous institution
- A letter of good standing from your previous institution
For Postgraduate Students:
In addition to the standard documents, postgraduate applicants may need to submit:
- Research proposal or thesis topic
- Letters of recommendation
- CV
