UNISA Online Application 2026 Apply Now

Applying to the University of South Africa (UNISA) for the 2026 academic year is currently open. We invite prospective students to fill out and submit their online applications by visiting the application tool at www.unisa.ac.za. We encourage all prospective students to submit their applications as soon as possible as spaces are limited.

All UNISA 2026 applications must be received between August 19 and November 14, 2025, depending on the qualifications.

Documents to be submitted if you are a first-time NDP applicant:

Remember the following documents are essential when submitting your application online.

Where applicable, a letter of permission/recommendation from your previous university
A letter of motivation as to why you want to register for NDP
An official academic record issued by your previous university (if applicable)
Copy of your ID or passport
A copy of your Grade 12 certificate
Proof of address

University of South Africa (UNISA) Courses and Requirements

If you failed to submit all required documents or pay the application fee during the previous application period, you must reapply for admission in 2026. Your student number remains valid, but you must pay the fee before the closing date.

The following are the courses with their respective requirements that must be met by all prospective applicants

Hold a Senior Certificate with an endorsement indicating that you have been exempted from the matriculation requirement
A maximum of 50% of the prescribed credits may be awarded in the form of credits and exemptions
Formal education at a tertiary institution (e.g. formal certificate, diploma, and degree qualifications) and informal learning (e.g. knowledge or skills acquired during practical work experience, including community work in a relevant field)

Please collect this information from myUnisa and submit your academic record as part of the application process if you have previously studied via Unisa. Please keep in mind that you do not need to get this academic record validated because Unisa can cross-check the information against the Unisa database.

When and who should apply for non-degree purposes (NDP)?

The school’s capacity is limited, limiting admission and registration for NDP. Only exceptional cases will be considered. Module NDP admission requires meeting prerequisites. Applications for undergraduate qualifications for the 2026 academic year will be accepted from August 19 to October 11, 2025.

Unisa Application Outcome & Offer 2026

Unisa admits students based on available spaces for each qualification, not the “first come, first served” rule. The final decision on your application will be announced by Unisa. You must accept or decline the offer within 10 days. First-time Unisa applicants must complete the First-Year Experience MOOC before accepting their offer and registering for the 2026 semester 1 academic year.
