UWC 2026 Application: Key Dates, Requirements, and How to Apply

The 2026 application period is now open. The University of the Western Cape (UWC) invites the public to apply for undergraduate and graduate programs for the 2026 academic year. Applications can be submitted online or manually.

UWC 2026 Application Date Breakdown

Be sure to submit your application according to the dates below to be considered for the 2026 intake at the  University of the Western Cape (UWC)

  • Application Opening Date: Wednesday, April 2, 2025
  • Application Closing Date: September 30, 2025 (Late applications may be accepted depending on space availability in January 2026)
  • Submission of supporting documents: Midnight of September 30, 2025

Who qualifies to apply for admission?

  • Persons applying for the first time at the University of the Western Cape (UWC)
  • Persons who were not enrolled in any course at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) before
  • An applicant who did not get a University of the Western Cape (UWC) Student number in any previous year

Document Requirements for UWC 2026 Applications

You will need to provide the documents listed below, depending on your citizenship and educational background.

International Students

  • A certified copy of your passport or Refugee Permit.
  • High School Qualifications
  • Confirmation Letter from USAF
  • Apply for Exemption with USAF
  • Submit your final school results to Universities South Africa (USAf) for evaluation

Current Matriculants

  • If you are in Grade 12 in 2025, you are not required to submit any documentation

Post-Matric Learners (Already Matriculated)

  • NSC Certificate or Senior Certificate
  • Identification document

Transfer Students (Applying from Another Institution)

  • NSC Certificate or Senior Certificate
  • Identification document
  • Conduct Certificate from your institution
  • Official Academic Transcript
  • Module content / Yearbook descriptor from your institution for all modules completed
  • Degree certificate (if applicable)

 Students Applying for Readmission to UWC

  • Letter of motivation to be considered for readmission to your respective faculty
  • Certified copy of your NSC certificate or Senior Certificate
  • Certified copy of your identification document
  • Proof of any studies with academic records (if applicable)
  • Proof of any improvements to your NSC results (if applicable)
  • Affidavit with a brief description of activities post-matric/NSC

N.B.: Ensure all the documents above are certified and scanned before you submit them.

UWC Application Fee

There is no application fee for the 2026 admissions to the University of the Western Cape

How to Apply Online for UWC 2026

To submit an online application: Use your computer, laptop, tablet, or mobile device to access the internet, then follow the instructions below.

  • Go to UWC’s application portal at www.uwc.ac.za.
  • Click on “Apply Now” to create a new application.
  • Carefully read the application instructions and checklist in the “I ACCEPT” box.
  • Select and click on the “New Application” option.
  • Enter your identity number.
  • Browse UWC’s programs and choose a course only if you meet its requirements.
  • Complete the online application form.
  • Upload all necessary documents.
  • Submit your application.
  • After submission, you will receive a confirmation email with your application reference number

How to Check Your UWC Application Status

To track the status of your application at the University of the Western Cape:

  • Go to www.uwc.ac.za
  • Select the “Admission & Financial Aid” menu
  • Click on the “Apply” option from the drop box list
  • Scroll down to the middle of the page
  • Select and click on the “ Check Status” link
  • You will be taken to the Status section
  • Choose the third option “Check application status here”
  • Enter your student number and PIN
  • Click on View to see your current admission status

Registration for 2026 at UWC

Online registration for the 2026 academic year will open to all new students accepted for the intake. The registration period is 08 January 2026 – 07 February 2026 of the year of study. When you receive an offer to study at the University of the Western Cape, make sure you have your registration fee and supporting documentation ready.
