When Is CAO Application Opening For 2027

The Central Applications Office (CAO) has announced the opening dates for the 2027 application cycle for higher education institutions in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Each year, the CAO processes applications for admission to all public universities, universities of technology, many private colleges, and four TVET colleges within the province.

Prospective students wishing to study in 2027 are invited to apply via the official CAO portal at www.cao.ac.za. Applications can be completed either online or manually.

CAO 2027 Application Cycle Now Open

The Central Applications Office (CAO), the primary portal for partnering universities and TVET colleges, will officially accept applications for the 2027 academic year between March 1 and November 30, 2026.

Because space is limited and competition is high, prospective students are encouraged to apply as early as possible. To secure your spot, ensure that your complete application, all required supporting documents, and proof of payment for the application fee reach the CAO office before the deadline.

Apply to Multiple Institutions via CAO

With the CAO, you can apply for up to six different programs (across various universities and colleges) with just a single application fee.

The process is simple: select your preferred qualifications and institutions from the database, and the CAO will automatically forward your details to them once all requirements are met. It’s a stress-free, cost-effective way to maximize your chances of acceptance, all with just a few clicks!

What You Need to Apply via CAO for 2027

You need to apply through the CAO application portal with the following documents

Required Documents:

Certified Copy of ID and Birth certificate
Final Grade 11 Report (Grade 12 applicants) OR Highest qualification achieved
Copy of study/residence permit (international applicants)
Proof of Payment of Application Fee
June Grade 12 Report (submit as soon as received)
September/Trials Grade 12 Report (submit as soon as received)
Additional documents requested by specific institutions (e.g., academic records)

Late: R470

International Applicants:

On-time: R300
Late: R580

Payment Methods:

Online: Credit card payment during application on www.cao.ac.za.
EasyPay: Use your unique EasyPay number at participating outlets.

How to Apply through the CAO (Two Options):

Online Application:

Hard-copy Application:
