How to Apply to Durban University of Technology
The application mode varies by the level of qualification one seeks to apply
Undergraduate students:
- All undergraduate applicants must submit their applications through the Central Applications Office (CAO) portal at www.cao.ac.za. Direct applications to DUT are not allowed for diploma, higher certificate, or bachelor’s degree programs. All application fees and supporting documents must be submitted to the CAO via its portal.
Postgraduate Students
- All postgraduate and senior/returning applicants must apply directly to DUT via www.dut.ac.za. If you are applying for a Master’s or Doctorate qualification, you must pay the application fee and submit all supporting documents directly to DUT.
Important Deadlines and Requirements for DUT 2026
The final date for domestic and international students to apply to the Durban University of Technology is November 30, 2025. All applicants must submit the required supporting documents, including proof of proof of payment of the non-refundable application fee.
DUT Application Requirements
You must include the documents below:
- Copy of your identity document & passport
- Academic record and certificate of good conduct (if you have already studied at a tertiary institution)
- Copy of Study or Residence Permit
- Grade 11 and Grade 12 certificate
You must submit a scanned copy of each of the documents listed above, whether you are applying directly or indirectly, and not the original copies.

Durban University 2026 Minimum Entrance Requirements
To study at DUT, you need to satisfy the requirements below:
For Higher Certificate Programmes:
- A National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4 with at least 50% in English.
For Diploma Programmes
A National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4 with the following minimum requirements:
- At least 50% in three fundamental subjects including, English; and
- At least 60% in three compulsory vocational
For Bachelor’s Degree:
A National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4 with the following minimum requirements:
- At least 60% in three fundamental subjects, including English; and
- At least 70% in four compulsory vocational subjects, chosen from the National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4
