Stellenbosch University (SU), a leading African university with deep local roots and a global reach, offers a wide range of academic and professional programmes. The university is inviting applications from all qualified and interested students.

To give applicants more control over their programme choices and the entire application process, the university has developed an online system where you can complete your application form. Instead of manual applications, you can now apply online by selecting at least two study programmes for the 2027 academic year.

Stellenbosch University 2027 Admission

To apply for any programme, the Stellenbosch University (SU) online application portal will open automatically on 1 April 2026. From this date, you can complete your application, upload supporting documents, and pay the application fee. Once this is done, you will be able to view all details, including your selected programmes, on your dashboard.

Please note that the application system will close to new applications after 31 July 2026. Unfortunately, the portal will not reopen until the next application cycle.

What You Need to Know

  • Application Fee: All applications must be accompanied by an application fee of R100.
  • Four (4) Month Application Window: You are required to complete and submit your application within the four-month window. You may also edit and modify your application during this period.
  • Acknowledgement Email: After submission, you will receive an email confirming successful submission. This email will include your student number.
  • Application Updates: If you make any changes and save your application within this period, the updates will take effect immediately.
  • Entry Requirements: A National Senior Certificate (NSC) or Independent Examinations Board (IEB) school-leaving certificate as certified by Umalusi for admission to bachelor’s degree studies
  • National Benchmark Tests (NBTs): Applicants seeking admission to programmes in the Faculty of Law must complete the NBTs for their chosen programme before 31 July to be considered for selection.

How to Apply Online at Stellenbosch University

You can apply for undergraduate or postgraduate programmes at Stellenbosch University by following these steps:

  1. Visit the application portal.
  2. Click “Apply.”
  3. From the drop-down menu at the top, click “Start Application.”
  4. Select your country and enter your ID or passport number.
  5. Tick the “I accept” box to proceed.
  6. Choose your programme(s) of choice and complete the application by:
    • Filling in your personal, contact, and address details
    • Entering your educational and work background
    • Uploading all required documents
  7. Click “Submit” to send your application.
  8. Pay the application fee and upload the proof of payment (receipt).

Important Notice

Please note that meeting the academic requirements does not guarantee automatic selection. Stellenbosch University can only accommodate a limited number of students.

Remember: Applications for the 2027 academic year open on 1 April 2026 and close on 31 July 2026.

International Applications

International students—including refugees, asylum-seekers, and permanent residence holders in South Africa—with international curricula are invited to apply to Stellenbosch University.

To apply, you will need the following:

  • A valid passport or travel document
  • Proof of previous academic qualifications (translated into English, if necessary)
  • Completed the SU online application form
  • Application fee payment
  • Any additional documents required for your chosen programme (e.g., letters of recommendation, portfolios, or test scores)
