The University of the Free State (UFS) is now accepting readmission applications for the 2027 academic year. This opportunity is open to students who were previously refused admission, as well as those who need to return after academic exclusion. Students seeking readmission for the January 2027 intake must submit their applications between April 1 and September 30, 2026. Deadlines may vary depending on your chosen course, so itβs important to check specific faculty requirements. Online submissions are the primary method unless stated otherwise.
How to Reapply at UFS
If your readmission application for the 2026 academic year was declined, you must submit a new application for 2027. The readmission process requires completing the online UFS Readmission Form, which can be submitted only once per intake.
Appealing a Readmission Decision
If you wish to challenge a decision by the Readmission Committee (RAC), you can request a review by the University Readmissions Review Tribunal (URRT). To do this:
- Complete the readmission application form.
- Submit a formal appeal via email to academicappeal@ufs.ac.za within four days of receiving the RAC decision.
- Include supporting documentation outlining the grounds for your appeal.
Both new applicants and returning students must follow these steps to be considered for readmission.

- Those who exceeded their residential period according to Faculty Rules or General Rules for undergraduate or postgraduate programs.
- Students academically excluded for not complying with Faculty Rules or progression requirements.
Note: Incomplete applications will not be considered by the URRT.
