North-West University (NWU) Online Application 2027 Now Open

The application period for North-West University’s 2027 academic intake opens on 1 April 2026. Prospective students who wish to enrol in any programme are encouraged to visit the official website and complete the online application form.

Applicants are strongly advised to apply well before the closing date, as admission is subject to programme capacity and available space. NWU offers a broad range of qualifications tailored to support both recent high school graduates and professionals aiming to advance their careers.

NWU Applications Dates for 2027

Prospective candidates may apply for any available programme from Wednesday, 1 April 2026, to study at NWU. The closing date for the 2027 admission cycle is Monday, 31 August 2026.

Please note that North-West University will not consider late applications after the deadline.

Application Documents Required For NWU 2027 Applications

You need to have the following documents ready:

Undergraduate students

  • Grade 12 results, Grade 11 results (final results only)
  • Copy of your matric certificate – if you have already passed matric.
  • Copy of an Applicant’s Identity document
  • Copy of Applicant’s academic record (if applicable).
  • Applicants who are currently upgrading their grade 12 results, will only be considered after the improved results are presented to the NWU.
  • Applicants who follow Cambridge, GED, or any other non-NSC curriculum, or who may qualify for exemption based on advanced age or post-school qualifications, must provide an exemption certificate as issued by USAF. 
  • Completed undertaking.
  • Additional documents for international prospective applicants:
    • A copy of the relevant results
    • A copy of your passport

Postgraduate students

  • Completed mandatory undertaking
  • Copy of your ID
  • Copy of your academic record (if applicable).

NWU 2027 Online Application Fees 

North-West University Application Fee Breakdown for the 2027 academic intake:

  • Domestic Students: No application fee applies.
  • International Students: Non-refundable application fee of R550.

  • Applicants must upload valid proof of payment before the closing date to ensure their application is processed.

NWU 2027 Admission Requirements

Admission to NWU for 2027 is mainly based on your National Senior Certificate (NSC) results using the Admission Point Score (APS) system, together with specific faculty and programme requirements.

Undergraduate Admission

  • Requires a Bachelor-endorsed NSC or an equivalent qualification.
  • APS is calculated from your best six Grade 12 subjects (excluding Life Orientation).
  • Each faculty sets its own minimum APS and subject requirements.
  • Competitive programmes such as Medicine, Engineering, Law, and certain Health Sciences require higher APS scores and may include additional selection processes.
  • Non-selection programmes require meeting the minimum APS and subject criteria.

Subject Requirements

  • English proficiency is compulsory for all undergraduate programmes.
  • Certain fields require specific subjects such as Mathematics, Physical Sciences, or Life Sciences.
  • Applicants should confirm subject requirements in the official NWU 2027 prospectus.

National Benchmark Tests (NBT)

  • NBTs are not required for 2027 undergraduate admission, although some competitive programmes may conduct internal assessments

How to Apply Online to North-West University

  • New applicants should select “New Application” and then choose “Create New Student Number.”

  • Complete all required fields to activate your unique NWU student number.

  • If you already have a student number, log in using your student number and PIN.

  • Access your application dashboard using your student number and PIN.

  • Review the available programmes by consulting the relevant yearbooks.

  • Ensure that you meet the specific admission requirements for your chosen programme.

  • Complete the application form with accurate personal and academic information.
