Be sure to submit your application according to the dates below to be considered for the 2026 intake at the University of the Free State (UFS)
- General Application Opening Dates:
- April 1, 2025: All undergraduate programs (except those listed below)
- July 1, 2025: Access Programmes on South Campus and sub-regions
- Program-Specific Deadlines:
- May 31, 2025: MB ChB, Occupational Therapy, Optometry, Physiotherapy, Radiation Sciences
- July 31, 2025: Architecture, Biokinetics, Dietetics, Nursing, Social Work, Sport Coaching
- August 31, 2025: Access Programmes (South Campus & sub-regions), International applications, Non-selection programs, Transfers, Community Development (Qwaqwa), Construction Economics & Management (Full-time), Construction Management (Compact Learning)
- September 30, 2025: Drama & Theatre Arts, Forensic Sciences, Geology, Music, Physics with Engineering Sciences, Quantity Surveying (Compact Learning), Fine Arts
Document Requirements for UFS 2026 Applications
You will require the documents listed below based on your level of qualifications.
South Africa Undergraduate Applicants:
- A scanned copy of an ID
- parent’s ID or passport if you are younger than 18
- Your final Grade 11 results with the school’s stamp
- National Senior Certificate (NSC) or Grade 12 IEB certificate
- Transfer applicants must also provide conduct certificates from their previous universities
International Undergraduate Applicants
- A scanned copy of your passport
- certified school-leaving certificate and relevant diplomas
- USAf accreditation from the examination board for South African universities.
- Study-permit and visa
Postgraduate Applicants
- Students transferring from other universities must include a certificate of conduct as well as a study record from their previous university with their applications
- International postgraduate students must attach certified copies of degrees/certificates to their applications.

- A scanned copy of an ID
- Departmental application form, CV, motivation, reports, dissertation/thesis proposal.
N.B.: Ensure all the documents above are certified and scanned before you submit them.
University of the Free State (UFS) Application Fee
There is good news for everyone who wants to enroll at the University of Free State. There is no application charge or processing fee, as we usually call them. Online applications are available for free at the University of the Free State.

How to Apply Online for UFS 2026
To apply online to the University of the Free State (UFS):
- Visit the official website at www.apply.ufs.ac.za.
- Click the “Apply” tab.
- Select the “New Application” tab to begin.
- Enter your details.
- Activate your account using the link sent to your email.
- Enter the reference number to start the application.
- Re-enter your contact details before clicking “Next.”
- Select a course only if you meet its requirements.
- Complete every required field.
- Enter your academic and employment history.
- Upload the required documents.
- Check the box to accept the terms and conditions.
- Click “Submit” to send your application.
- Check your email for your student ID after successful submission.
- Check your portal for your current admission status

To track the status of your application at the University of the Free State (UFS):
- Visit www.ufs.ac.za
- Select and Click on the “Student Self-Service” tab.
- Enter your student number and PIN.

Registration for 2026 at the University of the Free State (UFS)
Online registration for the 2026 academic year will open to all new students accepted for the intake. The registration period typically runs from January to February of the year of study. When you receive an offer to study at UFS, make sure you have your registration fee and supporting documentation ready.
