Application Deadlines for the 2026 Academic Year

You can apply as soon as possible without necessarily uploading your supporting documents, but make sure your application documents reach the university by the following dates for the 2026 academic intake

  • Medicine (MBChB): June 30, 2025
  • Other Programs: September 30, 2025

Though late applications will be considered subject to the availability of space, it’s always important to submit your application before the regular deadline. This is because the offer is conditional on ‘space availability.’ Once there are no more spaces in the courses, you will not be given another opportunity to apply for late enrolments

How to Apply for the UKZN 2026 intake

There are two ways to apply to UKZN, depending on your application type:

Applying Directly to UKZN:

  • Visit the UKZN Application Portal.
  • Review the application instructions.
  • Complete the online application form with accurate information.
  • Submit the application and pay the application fee.

Applying through the Central Applications Office (CAO): For South African first-time applicants, you must submit your application through the CAO platform. Follow these steps:

  • Visit the CAO Website and click “Apply.”
  • Complete the online application form with your details.
  • Submit your application and pay the application fee.

Required Documents for UKZN Applications

Ensure you upload the following documents, as applicable:

Identification: Certified copy of ID or passport.

Academic Qualifications:

  •         School leavers: Certified copy of your National Senior Certificate (NSC) or equivalent.
  •         Transfer students: Certified copies of your degree certificate(s) and academic records.

International Applicants:

  • Proof of qualification recognition by Universities South Africa (USAF).
  • English proficiency (if your country is not English-speaking).
  • SAQA evaluation for foreign qualifications.

Application Fee Payment

The application fee must be paid before submitting your application. For international applicants, the application fee is non-refundable. Use your student number as the reference when making payments.

Admission Requirements

  • Undergraduate Degree Programs: National Senior Certificate (NSC) or equivalent with an endorsement for degree study.
  • Diploma Programs: NSC for Diploma studies or equivalent.
