WSU 2027 Application Period
Applications to Walter Sisulu University for the 2027 academic year will open on 1 April 2026. Prospective students are encouraged to apply as early as possible and ensure their applications are submitted before the official closing dates.
Application Deadlines:
- International Students: Wednesday, 30 September 2026
- South African Students: Saturday, 31 October 2026
Who Can Apply?
WSU welcomes applications from the following groups:
- First-time undergraduate students (NSC/Grade 12 or equivalent)
- International students from any country
- Returning students seeking readmission
- Students with special needs or disabilities
- Minor applicants under 18 (with parental consent)

Admission Requirements for 2027
To qualify for your chosen programme, you must meet the minimum entry requirements:
- Higher Certificate: NSC with at least 30% in the language of instruction
- Diploma: NSC with 30% in language and 40–49% in four 20-credit subjects
- Bachelor’s Degree: NSC with 30% in language and 50–59% in four 20-credit subjects

Re-Admission Applications
Former WSU students who did not complete their qualifications can apply for readmission in 2027. You must meet the academic progression requirements of your original programme.
International Student Applications
If you are an international applicant:
- You’re welcome to apply regardless of your country of origin.
- You must obtain a study visa and ensure the relevant authorities endorse all documents.
- WSU provides support through its International Office to guide you throughout your application and enrolment journey.
Students with Disabilities or Special Needs

- You’re encouraged to apply like any other student.

Applicants Under 18

Required Documents for Admission
Be sure to prepare and submit certified copies (not older than 3 months) of the following:
For South African Applicants:
- National Senior Certificate (NSC) or Grade 12 results
- Valid South African ID document
For International Applicants:
- Final school-leaving certificate (equivalent to Grade 12)
- Passport (certified copy)
- Certificate of Foreign Exemption (Matric Board – usaf.ac.za)
- Evaluated Grade 12 results
For Students with Special Needs:
- Medical or psychological assessment report
- Accommodation application form
- Any official documentation outlining specific support needs
