Walter Sisulu University (WSU) Semester Registration Online 2023/2024
Students after accepting the offer of the Walter Sisulu University (WSU) must register for the semester before he/she can commence studies at the new school. Registrants are given advance notice of the registration process.
All returning students are required to follow the registration procedures and deadlines. Plan and get ready in advance as you complete your registration tasks and follow the deadlines set. As a result, classes will start on schedule in accordance with the University’s academic calendar.

Certified copies of the following documents must be uploaded/ submitted on the day of registration by all Registrants:
- Copy of bar-coded identity document or ID card or passport.
- Copy of Grade 12 NSC final results or equivalent.
- Copy of degree certificate (if applicable).
- Copy of academic record (if applicable).
- Copy of Certificate of Conduct from previous institution (if applicable).
Please note this: No subject/ module additions and cancellations will be allowed after the scheduled period has been concluded and closed by Walter Sisulu University (WSU).
Information for all Fresh students at Walter Sisulu University (WSU)
First-time entering students (FTENs) & New Applicants: FTENs with confirmed NSFAS funding AND enrolled for a funded qualification will be cleared to register after the University has confirmed funding eligibility directly with NSFAS. The University does not process financial clearance using the information submitted by students.
How long does it take for WSU to verify and process NSFAS funding
Students should note that it may take up to 2 to 3 days for the University to verify and process NSFAS funding. Once the funding status has been verified and processed, students will be notified by SMS and the funding status will be updated on the WSU student portal https://students.wsu.ac.za/ student_portal/index.php.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS’ REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
The rules around the acceptance of international students are legislated by the South African Home Affairs Department, thus WSU as an institution that exists within the ambit of South Africa and is governed by the Higher Education Act has to comply with these. The guidelines given below seek to accommodate the international students, with the necessary compliance requirements in order to register successfully as a WSU students.
All International students who have been accepted to an academic programme of study at WSU should please take note of the following pre-registration requirements:
- A valid passport;
- A valid study visa endorsed specifically for WSU;
- Proof of medical aid cover, registered & administered in South Africa, and must cover the duration of their study period.
- A valid asylum seeker permit, refugee identity document, or permanent residence permit.
Please note this as an international applicant: All supporting documents must be certified.
How Registration is done at Walter Sisulu University (WSU)
- Log in with your student number and the pin provided to you during the application
- Read the rules and regulations after selecting them (mandatory). Accept it after thorough reading by clicking on the I ACCEPT tab. This will take you to the next stage of the registration.
- Select “Submit Registration” on the left.
- Using the drop box on this page, select your employment status
- Click on “Save and Continue”.
- Select your subjects/ modules by ticking the box next to each subject/ module. Ensure you select all the relevant subjects/ modules. Click on “Save and Continue”.
- Click on “Save and Continue” if you are absolutely sure that you have selected the correct subjects/ modules, offering types, and periods of study.
- To finalize the registration process, click on the “I Accept Registration” tab .
- Registrants can now print the proof of registration.
