When Can I Apply at WSU for 2027 Academic Intake

Walter Sisulu University (WSU) is now accepting applications from undergraduate, postgraduate, transfer, and international students for the 2027 academic year. WSU 2027 Application Opening and Closing Dates

Ensure you submit your application within the following deadlines:

  • General Opening Date: 1 April 2026

  • General Closing Date: 31 October 2026

  • International Student Deadline: 30 September 2026

Note: Late applications are considered only, subject to space availability.

Who Can Apply for WSU 2027

The WSU 2027 applications are open to all applicants who meet the entry requirements, including:

  • Undergraduate, postgraduate, transfer, and international students

  • Domestic students

  • Grade 11 and Grade 12 learners

  • Students with special needs (physically challenged)

  • Students with a National Senior Certificate (NSC) or equivalent qualifications

How to Apply Online to WSU

Follow these steps to submit your application online:

  1. Visit www.wsu.ac.za using your internet browser.

  2. Navigate to the “Study with Us” section in the main menu.

  3. Click “Apply Now” to access the online application portal.

  4. Read and accept the application terms.

  5. Select whether to start a new application or continue a saved one.

  6. Enter your ID number (or passport number for international applicants).

  7. Select your country of residence.

  8. Set up and register your personal applicant profile.

  9. Activate your profile via the email verification link.

  10. Choose your preferred programme or qualification level.

WSU 2027 Undergraduate Admission Requirements

Students must meet minimum national requirements and any programme-specific requirements:

Higher Certificate

  • NSC required, Umalusi-certified

  • Minimum 30% in the language of learning

  • Some programmes require additional subjects or higher marks

Diploma

  • NSC required, Umalusi-certified

  • Minimum 30% in the language of learning

  • Achievement rating of 3 (40–49%) in four recognized 20-credit subjects (excluding Life Orientation)

  • Some programmes require additional subjects or grades

Bachelor’s Degree

  • NSC required, Umalusi-certified

  • Minimum 30% in the language of learning

  • Achievement rating of 4 (50–59%) in four recognized 20-credit subjects (excluding Life Orientation)

  • Certain degrees require specific subjects or higher marks

International Students

  • Qualifications must meet South African higher education standards

  • Some international certificates require evaluation by SAQA
