Who Qualifies For NSFAS Funding 2025-2026
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) will open applications for the 2025 academic year from September 2024 to January 31 2025 to South African citizens studying or about to enrol at universities and Tvet Colleges in South Africa so you need to know if you qualify to apply or not.
NSFAS will cover tuition, learning materials, living costs, and transport for beneficiaries studying at universities and Tvet Colleges till the end of their courses
NSFAS Eligibility Criteria For 2025
For the academic year 2025, you can only get NSFAS support if you meet any of the following criteria.
- Enrollment in an Approved Institution:
NSFAS funding is available to students pursuing their studies at public universities, universities of technology, and TVET colleges that are registered and approved by NSFAS.
- Age Factor:
NSFAS funding is open to all students, regardless of age, as it does not have an age limit.
- Applicant’s Citizenship:

Who cannot Apply For NSFAS 2025?
Because NSFAS is only open to South African nationals, non-South African citizens may not apply. The additional information listed below disqualifies applicants from qualifying for NSFAS.
- Students who have completed a previous qualification.
- Students with a combined household income of more than R350 000 per annum.
- Students who have already applied, qualified, and received funding. They are automatically funded for the duration of their studies provided they pass their modules and meet the academic requirements.
