The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has officially opened the application process for new students. If you have been admitted or are about to apply to a government of South Africa accredited public university or college for the 2023-2024 academic year, you are eligible for Nsfas funding, which covers fees such as tuition and registration. Applicants accepted for this year 2023 will also receive housing, transportation, and learning materials allowances for the semester.
Log in to the application portal to create your account. This account is known as myNSFAS. This account is created by following a set of instructions on this platform. After creating this account, applicants can log in with their ID and password to begin the Nsfas online application process.
myNSFAS Account Online
You will need the following to create the account:
- Your personal email address
- Your personal phone number
- A smart device, such as a smartphone or a laptop
- Internet Connection
Create and Log in your account
The following are step-by-step instructions for creating a myNSFAS account.
Step One: Log in to the official website and register your Profile
- Log onto www.nsfas.org.za and click on the myNSFAS tab.
- Click on register. Tick on the acceptance option to allow NSFAS to verify and validate the information you provided.
- Type in your ID number as it appears on your ID document.
- Type in your name and surname as they appear on your ID Document.
- Type in your email address and cellphone number. Your username will be your ID Number according to the new changes in 2023.
- Create a password and confirm your password. Use alphanumeric and symbols
- Upload a copy of your ID.
- Click on register.
Step Two: Verification of PIN
- After clicking register, a One Time Pin (OTP) will be sent to the email address and cellphone number you provided.
- Check your cell phone and email for the OTP.
- Type in the OTP in the tab provided and click submit.
- Confirmation of Account
- You will then receive another SMS and email confirming the creation of your myNSFAS account.
- You can now proceed with your application by logging into your account.

Procedures for Resetting Your Username and Password
If you have forgotten your login information, follow the steps below to obtain new login information.
Step I:
- Go to: www.nsfas.org.za, click on ‘myNSFAS’ and then click on ‘forgot password.
Step ii:
- Type in your ID number and choose what you require help with: password or username or both and then click on submit.
Step iii:
- The username and the link to change your password will be sent via SMS and email.
Step iv:
- Open the link and you’ll be redirected to the reset password page.
Step v:
- Reset your password by following the prompts on your screen
