CAO Application Dates 2024/2025 CAO Now Open

Dreaming of university life in 2025? Mark your calendars, future grads! The Central Applications Office (CAO) has officially announced the opening and closing dates for university applications next year. Whether you’re aiming for prestigious public universities or exploring diverse private colleges, this article equips you with the essential information to kickstart your CAO journey seamlessly.

What you must have before the application date

Applicants must be ready with all the supporting documents such as results, certificates, ID, and others. A working email address is also required from the applicants. Applicants whose documents are not certified and scanned must do so before commencing the online application. This facilitates the online application process. Applicants must also download the prospectus from the Central Applications Office to check all the requirements of their desired courses.

Prepare these documents before the opening date in 2025

These papers are crucial to the application procedure. These documents must be uploaded or submitted to be considered; otherwise, your application will be rejected entirely.

Certified Copy of ID and Birth certificate
Final Grade 11 Report (if you are in Grade 12) OR
Highest qualification achieved
Copy of study/residence permit (if you are a non-South-African applicant)
June Grade 12 Report (as soon as you receive it if you are currently in Grade 12)
September/Trials Grade 12 Report (as soon as you receive it if you are currently in Grade 12)
Any other document requested by the institution, eg. Academic Record, etc.

Application Period:

The official application period for 2025 opens on March 1st, 2024. That’s right, you can start your application early!
The deadline for applications varies depending on whether you’re a South African citizen or an international applicant.
- South African Citizens: Applications close on August 31st, 2024.
- International Applicants: Applications close on July 31st, 2025.

Important Dates to Remember:

March 1st, 2024: Application portal opens for ALL applicants.
July 31st, 2024: Application deadline for international applicants.
August 31st, 2024: Application deadline for South African citizens.
October 31st, 2024: Late application period opens for South African citizens only (subject to a late application fee).
December 13th, 2024: Institutional offer release commences (dates may vary slightly by institution).

Early Submission: By the close of October 2024

International Applicants pay R300

Submission after the Closing date: After October 2024

Early Submission: By the close of May 2024

South African applicants pay R250.00

How to Apply Online via the CAO office portal

Visit the official website @ cao.ac.za and select “Apply.”
After reading the details, press “Continue with Application.“
Enter your ID number and click on ‘Submit’
Click ‘Continue with Application‘ at the bottom of the page after you have scrolled there.
Start by entering ALL of the required information.
After you have completed all the required fields, click “Next.” “Continue with Online Application” should be clicked.
You’ll see your CAO number, password, and EasyPay number in a pop-up window. Read the guidelines.
“Continue with Online Application” should be clicked.
After carefully reading the instructions and submitting ALL necessary information, click “Next.”
Click “Next” after filling out the “Next of Kin” information.
Once the school’s name is displayed in a box, you must enter the years that you first enrolled there and when you graduated from it before clicking “Search.”
Choose “Next.”
NOW THAT YOUR APPLICATION HAS BEEN SENT, CLICK THE BUTTON WHEN “Process My Application” IS VISIBLE.
When your submission is successful, a notification will appear on your screen.
Now that you can pay online and upload your supporting documentation.
