Qualifications and their Requirements

The following are the minimum entrance requirements for a South African applicant to be admitted to the DUT:

 Higher Certificate programmes:

  • A National Senior Certificate (NSC) as certified by the Council for General and Further Education and Training (Umalusi), with a minimum achievement rating of 3 for English.

Diploma programmes:

  • A National Senior Certificate (NSC) as certified by the Council for General and Further Education and Training (Umalusi), with a minimum of achievement rating of 3 for English and a minimum achievement rating of 3 in four recognized NSC 20-credit subjects.

Bachelor’s Degree programmes:

  • A National Senior Certificate (NSC) as certified by the Council for General and Further Education and Training (Umalusi), with a minimum achievement rating of 3 for English and a minimum achievement rating of 4 in four NSC 20-credit subjects chosen from the NSC designated subject list.

Minimum Entry Requirements for Admission for Applicants With NCV Level 4

Higher Certificate:

  • A National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4 with at least 50% in English.

Diploma:

  • A National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4 with the following minimum requirements:
    1. At least 50% in three fundamental subjects including, English; and
    2. At least 60% in three compulsory vocational

Bachelor’s Degree:

  • A National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4 with the following minimum requirements:
    At least 60% in three fundamental subjects, including English; and
    At least 70% in four compulsory vocational subjects, chosen from the National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4Note: Each department also sets specific entrance requirements with which applicants needs to comply
