NMU Online Application Now Open For 2027 Intake
Prospective Diploma, Higher Certificate, Bachelor’s degree, Honours, Master’s, and Doctoral students, both domestic and international, who wish to study at Nelson Mandela University (NMU) in 2027 are invited to submit their applications online starting from 1 April 2026.
Due to limited space in many programmes, applicants are strongly advised to complete and submit their applications within the prescribed timeframe, as preference is given to those who apply during the official application period.

NMU Closing Dates For 2027 Cycle
To ensure adequate period for application processing and proper planning by both the university and candidates, all required application materials, including a fully completed online application form, supporting documents, and academic records, must be submitted on or before the following deadlines:
- 30 June 2026 – Applications for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB), Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm), and Bachelor of Radiography (BRad).
- 03 August 2026 – Early applications for all other programmes (excluding MBChB, BPharm, and BRad).
- 30 September 2026 – Late applications for programmes other than MBChB, BPharm, and BRad.
- 30 September 2026 – All international student applications.
- 30 September 2026 – All student housing applications

Good news for South African students applying to Nelson Mandela University (NMU) online: there is no application fee required!
- South African applicants: No application fee
- International applicants: R500.00 non-refundable fee

Document Required For NMU 2027 Applications
To complete your NMU 2027 online application, the following documents must be provided during the process:
Academic Credentials:
- Grade 11 final test results (certified copy)
- OR Grade 12 exam results (June/September, certified copy)
- OR Matriculation certificate/statement of results (certified copy)
- Diploma/degree certificates and academic records (certified copies, if applicable)
- Certificate(s) of conduct (if applicable)
Identification Documents:
- ID document (certified copy)
- OR Birth certificate (certified copy, if still waiting for ID)
- Parent/legal guardian/surety’s ID document (certified copy)
Additional Documents (Optional):
- Declaration form signed by parent/legal guardian/surety (if you’re a dependent, currently in school, studying at another university, or recently left school and lack permanent employment)
Remember: Certified copies are required for all documents.

- Choose Your Application Type
- Click on the “Apply Online” tab to begin your application.
- Carefully review the instructions to ensure you meet all the requirements.
- Click “APPLY ONLINE NOW.
- Choose your citizenship before moving to the next step.
- After confirming you meet the requirements, select the course you’re applying for.
- Enter Your ID/Passport Number.
- Complete all required fields
- Submit the required documents with your application.
- Once you’ve filled in all the necessary details, submit your completed application form for review.
Meeting Minimum Requirements for Nelson Mandela University
| Higher Certificate | Pass NSC with:Â A minimum of 30% in the language of learning and teaching of the higher education institution, together with any other university requirements. |
| Diploma | Pass NSC with: A minimum of 30% in the language of learning and teaching of the higher education institution, coupled with an achievement rating of 3 (40–49%) or better in four recognised NSC 20-credit subjects (this excludes LO which is 10-credits), together with any other university requirements. |
| Bachelors Degree | Pass NSC with: A minimum of 30% in the language of learning and teaching of the higher education institution, coupled with an achievement rating of 4 (50–59%) or better in four recognised 20-credit NSC subjects (this excludes LO which is 10-credits), together with any other university requirements. |
