SA Universities Open For Late Applications 2024/2025

Even though most universities have closed their applications to new applicants, there are still opportunities in some of them. Following application, deadlines are critical to receiving an acceptance letter from a university. You may not have planned it this way, but you were distracted by an outside factor, resulting in your inability to apply as soon as possible. Keep your hopes up, as some of the best universities are still accepting applications from new students.

Fortunately, some applicants who were offered a course declined, leaving a spot open for new applicants. As a result, most universities and colleges are now accepting late applications for the 2024/2025 academic year. The official end date of the 2024/2025 calendar is October 31, 2023. However, some courses have no specific application deadlines but will be closed as soon as they reach capacity.

Late Application requirements

There are a few of these universities that charge late application fees. In such cases, you must pay and attach proof of payment to the completed application form. This does not preclude the inclusion of additional supporting documents such as an ID, an academic transcript, the most recent academic results, a study visa, a medical report, and many others as required by your preferred university or college.

Universities in South Africa and Their Late Application Dates

The following institutions are still open for Late applications for the January intake

Nelson Mandela University (NMU)

  • NMU Application for 2024 – Officially the application was closed on 14th September 2023
  • Late Application is yet to be released for the 2024 academic year

University of Fort Hare (UFH)

  • Applications must be submitted by the deadline of 30 November 2023
  • Late applications will not be considered

University of Pretoria (UP)

  • The official closing date was 30 September 2023
  • However, there are still available courses you can choose from

North-West University (NWU)

  • All selection programmes closed on 31st July 2023
  • Non-selection programmes are still available for late applications

University of South Africa (UNISA)

  • The deadline for some undergraduate programs has been extended by Unisa until December 7th, 2023.
  • For the 2024/2025 academic year, some Honors and Postgraduate Diplomas have been extended until December 7, 2023.
  • UGSBL’s postgraduate diploma deadline remains November 30, 2023.
  • The application deadlines for some Master’s and Doctoral programs have been extended until January 31, 2024.
  • From November 14, 2023, to February 28, 2024, applications and registration for the Short Learning Programme are open.

University of the Free State (UFS)

The following courses are no more available for selection

  • MB ChB
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Optometry
  • Physiotherapy
  • Radiation Sciences
  • Architecture
  • Biokinetics
  • Dietetics
  • Nursing
  • Social Work
  • Sport Coaching
  • All non-selection programmes

Late Application

  • Faculty of Law/School of Financial Planning Law close on 15 January 2024

Rhodes University (RU)

  • All undergraduate and Postgraduate applications are NOW CLOSED
  • Late Application forms for 2024 are yet to be announced

Walter Sisulu University (WSU)

  • All programmes (undergraduate and Postgraduate) were closed as of Monday, 31 October 2023
  • The university is yet to release the late application forms for 2023

University of Johannesburg (UJ)

  • Late Applications will be announced on 23 January 2024

University of the Western Cape (UWC)

  • 31 August 2023: School of Government postgraduate degrees
  • 30 September 2023 (excluding Bachelor of Dentistry and Oral Health, BA Honours Biokinetics, BSc Honours Biokinetics)
  • Late Application is yet to be released for 2024

University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN)

  • 30 June 2023: Medicine
  • 30 September 2023: All other programmes
  • Late Application is already ongoing

University of Witwatersrand (Wits)

  • 30 June 2023 (Faculty of Health Sciences (all programmes); Bachelor of Architecture; Bachelor of Audiology, Bachelor of Speech-Language Pathology; BA Film and TV).
  • 30 September 2023 (All other University programmes)

University of Cape Town (UCT)

  • 31 August 2023 for all undergraduate programmes.
  • Late applications are not considered

University of Limpopo (UL)

  • 27 September 2023 (for both South African and International students).
  • Applications submitted after the aforementioned date will be considered a late application

University of Venda (UniVen)

  • Late Application is still in progress until 30 November 2023

University of Mpumalanga (UMP)

  • Late Applications must be submitted by the deadline of 6 November 2023 or will be rejected

Stellenbosch University

  • All programmes of the university closed their portal on 30th September 2023
  • The University does not accept late applications

Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University

  • 30 July 2023 (B Radiography, B Dental Surgery, B Pharmacy, B Dental Therapy, MBChB, and BSc Physiotherapy)
  • 30 July 2023 (BSc, BSc Diet, B Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, B Occupational Therapy, B Oral Hygiene, B Nursing Sciences)
  • Late Applications are not accepted after the deadlines

University of Zululand (UniZulu)

  • 30 August 2023 (Social Work)
  • 30 September 2023 (Nursing Sciences)
  • 31 October 2023 (for other programmes)

Sol Plaatje University

  • A late application is open until 30 November 2023 (All programmes)

Central University of Technology (CUT)

  • Late Application is accessible until 30th November 2023 (South African applications)
  • The international application is closed officially

Tshwane University of Technology (TUT)

  • A late application is in progress until 30 November 2023 for all programmes

Vaal University of Technology (VUT)

  • VUT Admission Forms for 2024/2025 are scheduled to close on 30 November 2023.

Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT)

  • Faculty of Engineering – first semester applications – 30 September 2023.
  • Faculty of Engineering – second-semester applications – 31 May 2023.
  • Faculty of Natural Sciences – 30 September 2023
  • Analytical Chemistry – second-semester applications – 31 May 2023.
  • Faculty of Management Sciences – 30 September 2023.
  • Applications submitted after 30 September may require a late application fee

Durban University of Technology (DUT)

Applications for Durban University of Technology are scheduled as per the below:

  • The Durban University of Technology Applications 2023 is scheduled to close on 30 November 2023.

Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT)

  • The date of opening Is October 24TH, 2023. The portal will be operational until NOVEMBER 4th, 2022 for all late applications
