Does Stellenbosch University accept hard-copy applications?
The application process page will guide you. Stellenbosch University encourages prospective students to apply online. Note that late applications are not necessarily accepted. Plan to apply before the closing date each year. They do not accept Manual or walk-in applications.
When can I Apply then: Exciting news for future students! Applications for our undergraduate programs are now open, but don’t procrastinate – submit your application before July 31st, 2024 as we strictly cannot accept late entries. Join our thriving community and unlock your academic potential!

Online Applications Only Accepted in 2025, No Fee: The university has already announced that it will only be accepting online applications for the 2025/2026 academic year. They do not accept paper applications and there is no application fee.

What Programmes are available at Stellenbosch University: Stellenbosch University offers programmes in many fields. The bulk of the programs need attendance in class and on the field because their curricula have a practical component. On the program page, it will be stated if it is accessible online.
Programmes with extensive selection processes:
- All programmes in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences;
- all programmes in the Faculty of Law;
- BA (Visual Arts);
- BA (Drama);
- All programmes in Music;
- BA (Sport Science);
- BSc (Sport Science);
- BEd (GenEd);
- All programmes in Engineering;
- BCom Actuarial Science; and
- BCom (International Business).
What are the minimum requirements for a Degree, Diploma, and certificate?
Note: Selection is based on performance
Bachelor’s Degree: A NSC with a minimum of 30% in the language of learning and teaching of the Higher Education Institution (HEI), coupled with an achievements rating of 4 (50-59%) or better in any four (4) NSC subject except Life Orientation.
Diploma: A diploma pass requires 40% in four higher credit subjects and 30% in three lower credit subjects, and you may fail one subject.
Certificate: A certificate pass requires a 40% pass in your home language, 2 subjects above 40%, 4 subjects above 30% and you may fail 1 subject. This pass allows you to study for a higher certificate.
