How To Complete Your NSFAS Online Application Form 2026

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is now officially open for 2026 applications. This scheme provides financial support to South African students from low-income households, enabling them to pursue higher education at universities and TVET colleges.

Applications opened on 15 September 2025 and will close on 15 November 2025. All eligible applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible to avoid last-minute challenges and possible disqualification.

NSFAS Online Application Form for 2026

To successfully complete the NSFAS online application form, applicants must provide:

An active cellphone number
A valid email address for communication
Internet access to complete the online application via www.nsfas.org.za

⚠️ Important: Incomplete applications will not be considered. Any form with missing fields or unsubmitted documents will automatically be rejected by the NSFAS system. Mandatory fields are marked with a red asterisk (*), and all required documents must be uploaded before submission.

Documents Required for a Complete NSFAS 2026 Application

All documents must be certified within the last three months at a police station, post office, or commissioner of oaths. The following are required:

A copy of your South African ID or birth certificate
Copies of your parents’, guardian’s, or spouse’s ID documents
Proof of income (latest payslips/IRP5 for the past year) of parents, guardian, or spouse (if applicable)
SASSA recipients: No proof of income required
A completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form (for applicants with disabilities)
A completed and signed Vulnerable Child Declaration and Consent Form (for applicants identified by the Department of Social Development)

Failure to submit any of the above documents will result in your application being rejected.

NSFAS Funding Eligibility Criteria for 2026

You may qualify for NSFAS funding if you fall into one of these categories:

All South African citizens who meet the financial requirements
All SASSA grant recipients
Applicants whose combined household income is R350,000 or less per year
Applicants with disabilities, provided the combined household income does not exceed R600,000 per year
Students who began studying before 2018 with a household income not exceeding R122,000 per year

You are not eligible if:

You already hold a prior qualification
Your household income exceeds R350,000 per year (or R600,000 for students with disabilities)
You are a foreign student (not a South African citizen)
You previously applied, were approved, and continue to meet NSFAS requirements (funding is automatically renewed if you pass your modules)

How to Apply for NSFAS Funding for 2026

Follow these steps to complete your application:

Visit the NSFAS website at www.nsfas.org.za
Click on myNSFAS to create or log in to your account
Select the Apply tab
Fill in all required personal and academic details
Upload all supporting documents
Double-check your details and click Submit

Once submitted, NSFAS will review your application and communicate with you via SMS or email.
