The 2026 application period is now officially underway, and the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) is inviting the general public to apply for undergraduate and graduate programs for the 2026 academic year. All applications must be submitted online or by manual process.

UKZN 2026 Application Date Breakdown

Be sure to submit your application according to the dates below to be considered for the 2026 intake at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN)

  • Application Opening Date: Tuesday, April 1, 2025
  • Medicine: June 30, 2025 (no late applications accepted)
  • All other courses: September 30, 2025
  • Semester 2 (August 2025): April 30, 2025 (limited new applications, specific programs only)
  • Returning Students: Apply by April 30, 2025, for Semester 2

Document Requirements for UKZN 2026 Applications

You will require the documents listed below based on your citizenship.

For Domestic Students:

  • A copy of your most recent school results (Grade 12 or equivalent)
  • A copy of your South African ID
  • If you have previously attended another higher education institution, a copy of your academic transcript
  • Proof of payment for the application fee

For International Students:

  • A valid passport and identification pages
  • Transcript or the latest academic results
  • Proof of registration at your home university (if applicable)
  • Proof of medical insurance

N.B.: Ensure all the documents above are certified and scanned before you submit them.

UKZN Application Fee

The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) application fee for 2026 varies based on submission time and nationality:

  • South African applicants:
    • On-time: R210
    • Late: R420
  • International applicants:
    • SADC and Rest of Africa: R490
    • Outside Africa: $153

How to Apply Online for UKZN 2026

Except for domestic first-time students, all applications must be submitted directly to the UKZN Admissions Office via www.ukzn.ac.za

To apply via the CAO online:

  • Visit cao.ac.za and select “Apply.”
  • Read the details and click “Continue with Application.”
  • Enter your ID number and click “Submit.”
  • Scroll down and click “Continue with Application.”
  • Complete all required fields and click “Next.”
  • Click on “Continue with Online Application.”
  • A pop-up with your CAO number, password, and EasyPay number will appear—follow the instructions.
  • Fill in all requested information and click “Next.”
  • Enter your Next of Kin details and click “Next.”
  • Search for your school name, enter your attendance years, and click “Next.”
  • Click “Process My Application” to submit.
  • You will receive a notification confirming the successful submission.
  • Upload your supporting documents and pay online via the EasyPay system.

How to Check Your UKZN Application Status

Use the procedures listed below to find out the status of your application at the University of KwaZulu-Natal:

  • Visit: https://caocheck.ukzn.ac.za/Start.aspx
  • Select the application year (e.g., 2025 or 2026).
  • Enter one of the following: CAO number, UKZN student number, ID number, or passport number.
  • Click the “Check” button to view your admission status.
