The Second Semester UNISA NSFAS applications for 2026 are now open and will close on January 31, 2026. New and returning students applying for the second semester of the 2026 academic year at the University of South Africa should apply as soon as possible.

To secure funding, students must complete the NSFAS online application form available at www.nsfas.org.za between September 1, 2025, and January 31, 2026. This NSFAS financial aid will also cover monthly allowances for food, toiletries, and other education-related expenses

NSFAS-UNISA Semester 2 Application Date 2026

For the second semester at UNISA, students can apply for NSFAS funding if they have not already done so for the academic year. The application process will open on September 1, 2025, and close on January 31, 2026.

Who Qualifies For UNISA NSFAS 

Your NSFAS application will not be considered if you

  • Received NSFAS funding in 2025
  • Have already completed an undergraduate degree or diploma.
  • Are not South African citizens.
  • Need funding for a Short Learning Certificate or Programme or a postgraduate qualification.
  • If you are a Student who has not completed a higher certificate and wishes not to start a degree/diploma qualification in 2026

Registration Fee (Semester 2 of 2026 at UNISA)

If your NSFAS application is provisionally approved, you do not need to pay the minimum registration fee. Your registration will be automatically activated based on the NSFAS funding confirmation received by Unisa.

How to Register for NSFAS Funding

Here are the steps to create a MyNSFAS account for the NSFAS Online Application for the academic year 2026

  • Open a web browser on your computer or mobile device.
  • Go to the MyNSFAS website.
  • Click on the “Register” or “Create Account” button.
  • Fill in the required personal information, such as your full name, ID number, and contact details.
  • Create a username and password for your MyNSFAS account.
  • Select and answer security questions for account recovery purposes.
  • Agree to the terms and conditions of using MyNSFAS.
  • Complete any additional information or forms as required.
  • Verify your email address if prompted.
  • Upload a copy of your ID.
  • Click on register.
  • Check your cell phone and email for the OTP.
  • Type in the OTP
  • Log in to your newly created MyNSFAS account using your username and password.

How to Apply For UNISA NSFAS 

Following the creation of your NSFAS account, complete the procedures below to submit your NSFAS application for the Second Semester of the academic year 2026.

  • Choose the ‘APPLY’ tab.
  • Edit personal information.
  • Complete blank fields
  • Upload the documents below
    • Smart card: both sides of the card required
    • Proof of income (where applicable)
    • Persons living with disability (Disability Annexure A form)
    • Copy of student ID / Birth certificate
    • Copy of parent/s or guardian/ spouse ID
    • An applicant who is recognized as a vulnerable child by the Department of Social Development must provide a completed Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker
    • Declaration form: Non-SASSA
