Why NSFAS?

NSFAS is a South African government-funded scholarship for all financially handicapped students in South Africa. It covers all beneficiaries’ tuition fees, living expenses, textbooks, and personal allowances. NSFAS does not fund foreigners or second-degree qualifications under any circumstances.

NSFAS is an organization that provides funds for South Africans whose family income does not exceed R350,000 per year to pursue higher education at a university or a technical college. NSFAS Application Date For 2025

NSFAS Bursary application(s) 2025 is now open to all prospective South African citizens earning R350,000 or less. NSFAS bursary applications are open to only South African citizens accepted into approved universities or TVET colleges. NSFAS Financial Aid applications are open from September 20, 2024, to January 31, 2025.

Nsfas Application Documentation Requirements For 2025

To proceed with your funding application, ensure you complete all sections of the application form and attach all necessary supporting documents in the appropriate format. Provide your identification number on each page of all supporting documents to ensure NSFAS management can process your online application. Certified copies of all documents must be no more than three months old. The South African Police Service or the South African Post Office can certify all NSFAS application documentation.

Documents Required for NSFAS 2025 Application

- Applicant’s ID Number
- Identity Document of each household member, including parents or legal guardian.
- Latest academic transcript or exam results. Grade 12 applicants are exempted.
- Letter from school informing NSFAS of exempt status.
- Official pay slip or employment letter for each parent or supporting person.
- Pension slip or bank statement showing pension payment.
- An affidavit confirming employment.
- Death certificate for deceased parents/guardians.
- Divorce decree for divorced parents.
- An affidavit explaining reasons for non-home living.
- SASSA letter for family members receiving social grants and contributing to household income.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR NSFAS BURSARY?

Who is eligible?

To be eligible for NSFAS, you must be:

A South African citizen
Intending to study at a public university or TVET college in 2025
From a household with a combined annual income below R350,000
Meeting the academic requirements set by your chosen institution
An applicant with any type of impairment with a combined household income is less than R600,000 per year is also eligible to apply for NSFAS 2025.
A Student who started studying before 2018 and whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum.

Who Does Not Qualify to Apply for Nsfas 2025?

We advise you to look for alternative funding if you are one of the following students applying for the NSFAS Bursary for 2025, as your application will be rejected. To be eligible for funding, you must first meet the requirements. The following students are not qualified to submit funding applications.

Students that have completed a previous qualification.
Students with a combined household income of more than R350 000 per annum.
Students who have already applied, qualified, and received funding. They are automatically funded for the duration of their studies provided they pass their modules and meet the academic requirements.

Applying NSFAS 2025 at www.nsfas.org.za without a mobile phone

Applicants seeking NSFAS funding for 2025 who do not have a personal cell phone should obtain one immediately or use the cell phone of a close friend or relative. Please keep in mind that you cannot apply for Nsfas funding without having a mobile phone. To register an NSFAS account, you will also need a cell phone number and an email address. Smart devices with internet access are used to apply for Nsfas online at www.nsfas.org.za. If you don’t have access to a smart device, simply go to your nearest National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) or Thusong Centre and ask for assistance.

How to Apply for Nsfas Online For 2025

Once you have a working cell phone, home address, email address, and phone number, you are ready to apply for Nsfas. Please keep in mind that if you do not have a personal cell phone, you will be unable to begin or complete your Nsfas application. Please follow these steps to apply for NSFAS funding for 2025.

Visit the Nsfas website at www.nsfas.org.za in the first place.
choose “myNSFAS” in the drop-down menu.
You must first create an account to access the application portal.

If you are a student at one of South Africa’s 50 registered and approved Tvet Colleges, or if you plan to apply or enrol, NSFAS bursaries are available. NSFAS accepts applications from Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) students three times a year. Apply for an NSFAS bursary to have your tuition fees paid. How To Submit An NSFAS Appeal

To access your MyNSFAS account, go to https://my.nsfas.org.za/Application/selfservice.jsp.
From the drop-down menu, choose Track Funding Progress.
Examine the status tabs of the application.
By choosing the Submit Appeal tab, you can submit an appeal if your application has been denied.
Once you’ve arrived at the Application Appeal page, you can find out why your application was rejected.
Explain in writing why you are appealing the outcome of your application.
No more than 1000 words should be used in your motivational speech (words including spaces).
Upload certified supporting documents to support your argument. A maximum of five documents are allowed per individual.
By selecting Submit, you can submit your appeal.
You will be able to follow the development of your appeal via your MyNSFAS account.
