UniZulu 2026 Application Guide: Dates, Documents, and How to Apply

The University of Zululand (UNIZULU) is currently taking applications for undergraduate and postgraduate programs for the 2026 academic year. The application window is open from April 1 until the end of October, with some programs having earlier deadlines.

For the 2026 academic year, the UNIZULU 2026 application window is open to both new and returning or senior students. All applications for undergraduate programs must be sent through the CAO online portal which is open as of March 1, 2025

UniZulu 2026 Application Dates Breakdown

The University of Zululand (UniZulu) has set October 31, 2025, as the general application deadline for the 2026 academic year. However, important exceptions apply to specific programs:

  • Social Work: August 31, 2025
  • Nursing Science: September 30, 2025
  • All other programs: October 31, 2025.

N.B.: You are advised to submit your application along with all other supporting documents by the dates mentioned above for the 2026 academic intake.

Required Application Documents

All Applicants:

  • Identity Document: A valid form of government-issued identification, such as a passport or national ID card.
  • Academic Records:
    • Diploma or Degree certificate (if available): Proof of any previously completed qualifications.
    • An academic record with conduct in respect of studies at another tertiary institution (if applicable): If transferring from another institution, provide your academic transcript and disciplinary record.
  • Proof of Payment: A copy of your non-refundable application fee payment receipt.
  • Matriculation Results/Certificate: Your final high school exam results.

International Students Only:

  • Valid Passport and Study Permit: Documentation allowing you to legally reside and study in South Africa.
  • SAQA Verification Certificate: Verification of your foreign academic qualifications by the South African Qualifications Authority.

Application Fee Required for 2026 UniZulu 

The application fee varies depending on your residency status (R220 for South Africans, and R275 for international students). Payment must be submitted with your application to the Central Application Office before the closing date.

Before you can apply to the University of Zululand, you will need to have:

  • CAO/ID Number
  • A valid phone number or email address
  • Certified copies of all required documents
  • An application fee

Important: Applications missing any required documents will be denied.

How to Apply to UniZulu University 2026

As previously mentioned, all applications must be submitted through the CAO application portal. To do so, follow the instructions listed below.

  • Visit www.cao.ac.za.
  • Click on the “Apply” button.
  • Enter your ID number or passport number.
  • Click “Submit”.
  • Select the appropriate option and click “Continue”.
  • Carefully fill out the information on the page.
  • Click “Next” to proceed.
  • Access your CAO number, password, and EasyPay PIN.
  • Use the provided credentials to continue with the online application process.
  • Follow the prompts and complete each stage of the application thoroughly.
  • Enter details of your next of kin.
  • Provide information about your previous educational qualifications.
  • Choose the UniZulu and up to five additional institutions (optional).
  • Process your application through the system.
  • Upload all required supporting documents.
  • Pay the application fee.

University Of Zululand Admission Requirements

To secure a spot in any of the courses available at the University of Zululand, you need to possess the qualifications below

  • The minimum admission requirement is a National Senior Certificate (NSC)
  • An old Senior Certificate with an endorsement that the holder has complied with the minimum statutory matriculation requirements
  •  Senior certificate/school leaving certificate from the matriculation examination.
