Applying online for the first time to the University of South Africa (Unisa) can be stressful, especially if you have just finished your matric or Grade 12 exams, which is why we have written this article to help alleviate that stress and frustration. The online application for the 2024 intake at the University of South Africa (Unisa) is now open to all prospective students irrespective of their race. Read this article if you’re having trouble submitting or applying via online form, or even completing the University of South Africa online application form.

Starting on September 1, 2023, the University of South Africa (Unisa) will only accept applications submitted online. We regret to notify you that the University of South Africa (Unisa) online application gateway won’t be open until September 1. For the January 2024 intake, you most likely won’t be able to access the online application portal until September 1, 2023.

 

What is required to submit an online application for January 2024-2025 intake to Unisa

You must have a smart device with internet access to apply or submit an online application to the University of South Africa (Unisa). You can apply to the University of South Africa (Unisa) with your smartphone or any other internet-connected device. Internet Explorer (IE) version 7 or 8 or higher browsers is the best browser for the University of South Africa’s (Unisa) online applications due to its compatibility with the University of South Africa (Unisa) online application portal system. Finally, an email, scan copies of supporting documents, and a contact number are required when applying or submitting an online application to the University of South Africa (Unisa).

 

Documents Needed for Unisa Applications During the Online Application Process

Prospective students applying to the University of South Africa (Unisa) for the January 2024 intake should have the following documents available to upload while their application is being processed:

Domestic Applicants

  • Copy of your school qualifications (eg Senior Certificate, National Senior Certificate)
  • Copy of your official tertiary academic record(s) (if applicable) (internet copies will not be accepted)
  • Copy of your ID document (RSA students) or ID/passport (international students)
  • Copy of your marriage certificate (if applicable) or divorce decree (if applicable)
  • Sworn translations of documents if they are not in English or Afrikaans

Foreign UndergraduateApplicants Only

  • Copy of your school qualifications.
  • Copy of your tertiary academic qualifications (if applicable)
  • Copy of your passport
  • Copy of your marriage certificate (if applicable) or divorce decree (if applicable)
  • Original sworn translations of documents if they are not in English or Afrikaans
  • M30 form – Application for a Certificate of Conditional Exemption (ONLY for admission to bachelor degree studies) (PDF 157KB) and supporting documents if you are applying for a certificate of exemption

 

Honours and postgraduate diploma applications

  • Copies of all official academic records, including all papers/modules passed, percentages obtained, and the ledger. If your official records are not in English, you must also submit an original translation by a sworn translator.
  • Copy of your valid passport.
  • Marriage/divorce documents (if applicable and if the names on your academic record do not correspond with the names on your passport).
  • A SAQA certificate of evaluation

Master’s & doctoral applications

  • Copies of all official academic records, including all papers/modules passed, percentages obtained, and the ledger.
  • A copy of your ID or valid passport.
  • A research outline, CV, and any additional documents as indicated in the admission requirements for the specific qualification under the departmental focus area requirements (applicants applying for the MBA, MBL, DBL, coursework LLMs and the Coursework MCom in Industrial Psychology do not need to submit a research outline).
  • RPL approval letter if you applied for admission via RPL.
  • A SAQA certificate of evaluation

 

Unisa Application FEE for 2024-2025 Online Applications

When you submit your study application to the University of South Africa, you will need to pay an application fee of R125 for the 2024 admissions. This is non-refundable.

 

How to Apply Online For Unisa 2024-2025

To begin, you must obtain an application form. You can download the application form from the University of South Africa’s website, contact its information department and request that it be mailed to you, or pick it up at any of its campuses.

Please be aware that the NSFAS 2024 appeals process is now open to all returning, continuing, and new students. Within 30 days of receiving the unsuccessful status, students should file an appeal through their myNSFAS account. For more information on how to file an appeal, go to www.nsfas.org.za.

 

How to complete the application form for Unisa for 2024-2025

You must follow the guidelines below to complete the online application form for the University of South Africa.

  • Go to the Unisa application tool at www.unisa.ac.za 2024
  • Select your Qualification
  • Read the instructions from Step 1 to Step 3
  • Click on the “Apply for Admission Option
  • Read the instructions on the page that opens very carefully before you proceed to the next stage.
  • Click on first-time Unisa Applicants/ Returning Applicants
  • Enter your passport or ID number
  • Fill in your details with accurate information
  • Upload the documents that are applicable to you
  • After a successful application, a student number would be generated automatically.
  • Proceed to effect the Unisa Application fee payment for 2024-2025

 

The University of South Africa Entry Requirements 2024-2025

  • The University has set the minimum academic requirements for admission to the University of South Africa study programmes in 2024.
  • The requirements are based on applicants’ South African National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination results.
  • Applicants who hold certificates from a different examination system will be considered individually for admission.
  • If you satisfy the minimum admission requirements stated here, this does not automatically mean that you will be admitted to the study programme at the University of South Africa.
  • The final decision on your admission will be based on your academic performance and the availability of space in the programme.
  • The better your academic performance above this minimum, the better your chance of being admitted to study at the University of South Africa in 2024
